Protection

Think about it...

Would you play in goal without protection?

Hockey Player

Nobody likes to get hurt or wants to suffer a permanent injury. So when we play sports we wear proper safety gear - helmets for cycling, roller blading or horseback-riding; pads and guards for soccer, football and hockey. We know it makes sense to protect our bodies. It also makes sense to protect your ears from loud noise and permanent hearing loss. After all, your ears are the only pair you'll ever have!

WHICH OF THESE ACTIVITIES ARE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS DUE TO NOISE?

  • Snowmobiles
  • Power Tools
  • Aircraft
  • Loud Music
  • Motorcycles
  • Chain Saw
  • Radio Headphones
  • Gaming (listening to gaming device)
  • Lawn Mowers and Leaf Blowers

All of these activities are noisy and all have the potential to cause damage to your hearing. If hearing protection is used while doing these activities, they can all be enjoyed safely without risk of permanent hearing loss.

HEARING PROTECTION THAT IS HIP™!

It is easy to protect your ears from loud noise :

  • Turn down the volume: Set the volume indicator on your music or gaming device to no higher than 60%.
  • Walk away from the noise: Even stepping back a few feet can cut the noise by half!
  • Wear hearing protection (even if you have a hearing loss!)

DID YOU KNOW THAT WHEN YOU WEAR EARPLUGS TO A CONCERT THE MUSIC ACTUALLY SOUNDS BETTER?

It's true! Even while wearing earplugs you will still be able to hear and feel the music, but since it won't be so outrageously loud it will have less distortion and you'll be able to hear the lyrics better.

WHAT ABOUT PEER PRESSURE? WON'T MY FRIENDS THINK I AM A NERD FOR WEARING EAR PLUGS TO A CONCERT?

We all face peer pressure (everyday!) and sometimes we just need to stand up for ourselves. If you plan ahead and rehearse how you will handle the situation, you might be surprised at how your friends react, especially if you hand them a pair of earplugs on the way in to the next concert or dance club!

Losing your hearing may not kill you, but it can significantly reduce your quality of life. And it can happen while you're still young. Next time you are at a concert, have a look at the musician's ears...you can bet they are wearing hearing protection; doesn't that tell you something?

Take responsibility and protect your hearing so it will last a long time.
